Zeon Zoysia is the grass of the 2016 Olympics in Rio! Golf has returned as an Olympic sport to the 2016 Games, the grass the golfers are playing on is Zeon Zoysia. The grass was selected for use on the tees, roughs and fairways of the course being built specifically for the Olympics. Zeon’s beauty and playability contributed to the choice. More important, Zeon’s low water use and low fertilizer requirements were critical for the Olympic Committee’s desire to build a sustainable golf course.

BENEFITS

Zeon is a fine-bladed Zoysiagrass. It has a beautiful dark green color and soft leaf texture making it a true “barefoot lawn grass.” Zeon Zoysia’s extensive root system allows it to quickly recover from drought, it can handle full sun, and has excellent shade tolerance only requiring as little as 3 hours of direct sunlight.

Palisades is a medium textured, high density turf suitable for home lawns, golf fairways and roughs, sports fields, industrial parks, and highway medians. Palisades is also noted for its shade tolerance and low water use requirements. The most shade tolerant of the zoysia varieties we carry.

When compared to St. Augustine, Palisades has a comparable shade tolerance, requires less water and fertilizer, and is a thicker, denser turf grass. During extremely dry periods, Palisades only requires one to two deep irrigations per month.

Hey, did you know that Zoysia Grass is great for sun or shade, looks better than Saint Augustine, and is not as easily destroyed by fungus and pests?

Also, I’m going to share three secrets with you today that’s going to revolutionize the way you understand what goes into putting in a new lawn.

I’m a zoysia grass fan and installer who has installed zoysia lawns in DFW since 2005, making lawns go from either dirt to green grass or in some cases our clients want to take the Zoysia shortcut that replaces a good lawn and makes it great..

It’s proper grading and nutrient rich soil.

It’s when you want to have that look of a smooth lawn that is flush with the sidewalk or driveway without that huge drop off that could twist an ankle and send Grandma to the Emergency Room. You probably have neighbors or you may have a bad lawn yourself where you can actually see the dirt above the grade of the concrete. A proper lawn will only show grass. This means we will come in and remove lots of soil to ensure your lawn looks correct. Additionally we will level low spots and shave off the high spots. If you are spending the money on a new lawn you could go from good to great by allowing for extra effort leveling and grading the soil..

Our service area includes the majority of the North DFW metroplex.  Including Plano, Richardson, McKinney, Frisco, Murphy, Prosper, Little Elm, Allen, Carrollton, Coppell, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Lantana, Argyle, Grapevine, Southlake, Keller, Northlake, North Richland Hills, Farmers Branch,  The Colony, North Dallas, Far North Fort Worth, Double Oak, Copper Canyon, Denton, Corinth, Trophy Club, Roanoke, and surrounding areas.

about proper grading and nutrient rich soil and how you can enjoy having the best lawn in the neighborhood with little to no effort going forward…

And I know what you’re probably thinking: your neighbor across the street spends hours on his lawn and has 10 applications a year with fertilization and weed control and it looks flawless.

But again, I’m going to show you a great way you can even outshine his lawn simply by cheating and installing a better grass and get amazing results.

So the first secret is, almost no sod company will take the time to level a lawn and this is a huge mistake.

The second secret is soil amendments..

The main thing to understand here is that adding topsoil and organic mixture to your installation helps the new lawn thrive.

This means though your new lawn may look nice, adding a nutrient rich topsoil will help a new lawn establish much quicker and help ensure success during the transplant.

The third secret is sod variety.

Now, I know what you’re thinking.

It’s probably super expensive to get this type of grass installed.

Well the cool thing is that Zoysia is similar in cost to the garden variety Saint Augustine lawn. There is a little extra prep that goes into building a perfect lawn, but you won’t have to break the bank to get ten times the value!

And so I’ve developed this FREE and Fast – Zoysia Sod Installation ((Satellite)) Estimate

You don’t have to wait for days for an appointment and you don’t have to make time to meet with our team unless this proves to be within your budget and looks like a project that will bring value to your property.

And so what this is going to do is help you determine a project budget and move faster to get on the schedule to complete the Zoysia Sod Installation!

will zoysia grow in the shade

Will Zoysia Grass Grow In The Shade?

We perform a FREE Sunlight Analysis when we come measure your lawn.

Many of our clients come to us because they have a shade problem.  Their Bermuda Grass was installed when the builders built the house and now the trees have grown up and the Bermuda Grass is getting thin. They know about Saint Augustine Grass and that it grows in the shade.  But they also know that Saint Augustine is a weak grass that has tons of problems.  Others think that Saint Augustine looks like a weed and there has to be another option.

Good News! Zoysia loves the shade and the sun.

Bermuda needs the most sun hours.  Direct sunlight all day is what it really loves.  When there is less than 5 hours of sunlight, you have to start thinking about other grass types.  Saint Augustine and Zoysia are similar in one aspect.  They only need 3 hours of sunlight to thrive.  We are partial to the look and barefoot grass feel of Zoysia.  We hope that you choose to get a free estimate from us and also take advantage the process that includes a free sunlight analysis.  It could mean the difference of replanting your grass year after year.

If you can’t get enough sunlight, we will show you the honest evidence that our grass is not right for the location.

We will also show you which trees could be pruned and where, so that you are strategic when removing part or all of a tree. We try to save trees. There is nothing worse than removing entire trees on a guess. This part of our process will give you confidence that you are not removing too much.

And I, as a Zoysia grass fan and installer who has installed Zoysia since 2005, installing nothing but Zoysia grasses because Bermuda and Saint Augustine are not as beautiful and we only install amazing lawns, what I do is ensure my crew is trained on how to eye a perfect soil grade. That really is so important and is the number one reason why other sod companies fall short. Grading a lawn is something my, former golf course superintendent, father taught me to appreciate.

So what I’ve done is I’ve created the processes and guidelines to ensure your lawn is the best lawn on the block. Our team checks off the list and gets a final approval by our quality control representative to ensure compliance every step of the way.

If you click the link, you can get your free sod installation estimate within 48 hours.

Our schedule is booking quickly. I honestly don’t know how much longer we’ll have openings. Soon prices will probably go up because like I said, we take extra care to ensure a perfect installation and other property owners just like you only want to install the best lawn when they are investing in a large project so reserve your position in the schedule today risk free by getting a no obligation estimate started.

Mowing your Zoysia lawn is not too different from any other type of grass, but there are subtle things to consider.

Zoysia grows slowly which means you won’t have to remove much length every week when you mow.

  • Alternate Cutting Direction of this slow growing grass to make sure you don’t run the same path every week which will leave ruts and damage turf.
  • Sharpen Blades or get new ones at least annually to get the best quality cut.
  • Scalp and Bag once every Spring to get rid of any thatch buildup from the previous year.
  • Mow Weekly to encourage horizontal growth and less vertical growth which in turn helps to choke out weeds. In North Texas you should be able to Mulch mow without bagging.
  • Border Trimming with a string trimmer turned up on its edge looks great for borderless flower beds. The slow growing Zoysia can be maintained with crisp hi-def transitions to mulch beds.
  • String Trimming around trees, against fences, houses, borders, etc should be done on the same angle that the lawn is mowed and at the same height of mowing. The string trimming should look like an extension of the lawn mower. Improper trimming styles have 45 degree angles diving into the dirt or cutting too short damaging the lawn.

Watering your Zoysia lawn will be a breeze this year.

Zoysia grasses are rated excellent when it comes to drought tolerance.

  • Frequency of watering during extremely dry periods, Palisades only requires one to two deep irrigations per month, similarly Zeon Zoysia’s extensive root system allows it to quickly recover from drought.
  • When Establishing New Zoysia Sod lawns in the Spring you want to water twice daily for weeks 1 and 2. Then water once daily for weeks 3 and 4. If you are installing in the summer you would want to water three times daily for weeks 1 & 2 and twice daily for weeks 3 & 4. For the rest of the first season you will water 3 times per week.
  • Pop-ups and rotors need to be watered on different zones within your sprinkler system because rotors need to run longer than your pop-up sprinkler heads. 10-12 minutes for pop-ups and 15-20 minutes for rotors.
  • Replacing heads when necessary allows for more efficient watering. If you see excessive runoff from the location of a sprinkler, you may have a subsurface leak.
  • Sprinkler height adjustments are fast and easy, and should be set to ensure the housing of your non-extended sprinkler is flush with the surface of the dirt level in your lawn. If it is set too low, you may have the pattern of your water spray interrupted by grass blades. Another negative of low sprinkler heads is the shortened life cycle that occurs when the extension neck of your sprinkler regularly comes into contact with abrasive soil. This in turn cause the sprinkler to stick in the extended position. You are sure to mow over it with a lawn mower.

Fertilizing your Zoysia lawn is easy to get wrong.

Zoysia grasses are so easy to sustain that you can over maintain them with chemicals.

  • Fertilizing too much can result in an abundance of thatch, making maintenance a chore. 3 fertilizer applications/year: spring, summer and fall is all you will likely need to establish a healthy lawn.
  • Feed with good soil gently when planting a new lawn. A great organic pro bedding soil packed full of organic nutrients is the best thing to nurse your new lawn into health.
  • Add a Starter Fertilizer after the roots are established at 6 weeks. Most of the time you will be able to find a bag containing the words “Starter Fertilizer” on the label. For best results always perform a soil test and fertilize accordingly
  • Weed Control should not be used for the first 4 months after planting a new lawn. When time has elapsed, read the label on the herbicide you want to apply and see if the chemical can be applied to Zoysia Grasses.
  • Identify The Type Of Weed causing the problem before using any chemical controls.

Getting a flat level lawn makes all the difference.

Zoysia grass is such a primo grass, making it flat and level makes it stand out.

  • Buy a leveling rake from Amazon for about $65. This is a rake designed to push leveling sand into low spots and scrape sand from the high spots.
  • First step is scalping your grass down to about .75-1 inch. This will allow you to apply the right amount of masonry sand without smothering your lawn.
  • When ordering Masonry Sand You will first need to calculate how many yards of sand to deliver. Get the square footage of your turf and account for no more than 1/2 inch of coverage. Calculate like this Area x .5 inch / 324 = ?? cubic yards of masonry sand needed.
  • Starter fertilizer is a great next step to encourage your grass to pop through the leveling sand quickly. Then just water it in and wait. Your lawn will look amazing.

We demonstrate leveling rakes in this video during a sod install, but they are also used after topdressing an existing lawn for lawn leveling maintenance with masonry sand.
