1. Kill the existing turf.
Eliminate competition for your North Texas Zoysia sod by thoroughly exterminating existing vegetation in your old lawn.
Apply a comprehensive weed killer to target the entire plant, roots included, ensuring a clean slate for your sod. Check the weather DO NOT APPLY CHEMICALS ON ESPECIALLY WINDY DAYS. Allow the treatment ample time to penetrate and eradicate the roots. After this crucial phase is complete proceed to the next step of your North Texas lawn enhancement journey.
2. Grading the soil:
Use a tiller or sod cutter to knock down hills and take the soil height two inches below the grade of any sidewalk or driveway. This will allow you to build up the area with new compost soil. Clear the site of any buried stumps, rocks, stones, or other debris.
3. Laying the sod:
Start by laying your sod strips along a straight edge, such as a driveway or walkway. This ensures straight lines. Install the pieces in a staggered pattern. 4. Water, Water, Water!:
As you move forward in the installation process, bear in mind that diligent watering stands out as the pivotal element ensuring the successful establishment of your new sod. Water thoroughly to moisten the top and the first few inches. For the first few weeks, transition into a routine where you’re watering the sod daily. Perhaps even more frequently, to maintain consistent moisture. This steady practice will support the sod until its roots have securely taken hold.

5am- 10 minutes on the popup sprays and 20 minutes for Rotors/40 minutes for drip irrigation per zone.

Ongoing Watering Schedule for the first season.
Water 3 times per week 12 minutes for pop ups / spray heads, 24 minutes per zone for rotating mechanical heads. Set the system to start watering in the morning around 5am.
Play nice, no mowing or sports games for 4 weeks:
Waiting gives the sod time to establish roots in its new environment. Continue to monitor the sod’s progress; wait until it has reached approximately 3 inches in height and feels firm to the touch before taking further steps. Set your mower to a higher setting to avoid cutting the grass too short and stressing the turf.
